Bihar– land of great religions
Bihar is the unique land that has been obliging the nation with great emperors, thinkers, philosophers and cultural and religious heritage. Since the beginning of human history and civilization, earliest mythology of Hinduism also put Bihar among the pioneers.
According to Sanatana Dharm history, Goddess Sita is said to be born at Sitamarhi district of Bihar. She was the daughter of King Janak of Videha and the region where Videha was located, is currently known as Mithilanchal.
The original author of Ramayna in Sanskrit—Maharshi [Saint] Valmiki lived in ancient Bihar. His town is now called Valmikinagar and it is located in the district of West Champaran.
It was Bihar, where many great religions of the world originated. Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism all have their ancient roots linked with Bihar.
The founder of Buddhism—Lord Gautam Buddha was born here. He attained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, which is the most sacred place for Buddhists all over the world.
Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism was born and attained nirvana [death] here in Pawapuri, which is located in south east of Patna.
The tenth and last Guru of the Sikhs—Guru Govind Singh was born here in Bihar. To commemorate his memories, all Sikhs visit Patna Sahib Gurudwara, which is considered one the five holiest places for followers of Sikhism.
The historical importance of Bihar does not end here. From the great emperor of Ashoka, who spread the seeds of Buddhism from India to Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and many other countries, Chandragupta, Bihar has always been epicenter of cultural development, ancient pride and international glory.
